Wakayama is a port city on Japan’s Kii Peninsula, known for its historic castle and its position on the country’s rugged southern coastline.

Day 4 – Miyazaki (Aburatsu), Japan

Miyazaki is a city on the southeastern coast of Kyushu, Japan, known for its subtropical climate and coastal scenery, served by the port of Aburatsu.

Day 5 – Nagasaki, Japan

Nagasaki sits in the northwest of Kyushu, a cosmopolitan port city with a history stretching back to the early 7th century.

Day 6 – Busan, South Korea

Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, is a major port framed by mountains, hot springs and long stretches of sandy beach.

Day 7 – Kanmon Straits, Japan

The Kanmon Straits are the narrow waterway separating Japan’s main islands of Honshu and Kyushu, linking the cities of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu.

Day 8 – Hiroshima, Japan

Hiroshima, rebuilt after the 1945 atomic bombing, is now a vibrant port city centred on the Peace Memorial Park, with Hiroshima Castle and the local pancake dish okonomiyaki among its features.

Day 9 – Kochi, Japan

Kochi is a coastal city where centuries of trade left a mix of ancient mosques, synagogues and European colonial buildings, along with giant Chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi.

Day 10 – Shimizu (for Mt. Fuji), Japan

Shimizu is a historic Japanese port city at the foot of Mount Fuji, known for the pine-fringed Miho-no-Matsubara coastline and its rich cultural heritage.

Day 11 – Tokyo, Japan

In the historic Asakusa district stands Sensoji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, founded in 628 and rebuilt many times through the centuries.
